A New Ballgame - A New Proposition
It's a whole new ballgame. We live in very exciting times in terms of our ability to wirelessly enable field workers. For those of us who have been involved with wireless communications over a period of many years, it has been a long, long wait.
Each year for many years, the collective radio communications industry and software applications providers alike have anxiously waited to proclaim:
"This is the year of mobile data!"
But, it never happened because the technology simply wasn't there to allow it to happen. The software applications were there, the hardware devices were there, but the transmission medium was not...
We can honestly say, that we truly believe that all the technology pieces are now in place. The infrastructure, a plethora of excellent products, innovative software applications, open integration standards; it's all there.
Does this mean this could be the year of mobile data?
Suffice it to say, that were it not for other factors such as 911, the high tech meltdown, the economic situation and shattered investor confidence, this would be the year of mobile data for certain...
So, what fundamental change occurred that takes away all the technology barriers, that makes it possible that this really could be the year when the industry runs away with itself? One simple, but very meaningful change makes it all possible:
the advent of always-on, always-connected packet data networks.
