iTRAKpc™ GPSConnect™ Portable Tracking Solution
iTRAKpc™ is an innovative solution that allows a standard iTRAKpro™ fixed-in-vehicle GPS unit to share the existing wireless data connection from a vehicle laptop, thereby eliminating the need for 2 separate wireless modems and associated packet data service from the wireless carrier. This highly cost effective solution allows a vehicle to report its position via the same wireless connection that the laptop already utilizes, such as any 1xRTT, iDEN or GPRS modem. The system will work with any wireless connection that has a routable IP address.
Operation is very simple and straight forward. The iTRAKpro™ plugs into the laptop's USB or serial port and the iTRAKpc™ software is then installed on the laptop and placed in the Windows Startup directory. With the laptop operating, iTRAKpc GPS Connect automatically detects the existing wireless connection and sends the vehicle’s position information to iTRAK Fleet Manager, with 100% packet delivery confirmation.
If the laptop is shut down, the iTRAK II will store all vehicle movements, starts, stops, inputs, etc. and once the laptop is powered back up, will update NavView with all vehicle activities. Two inputs on the iTRAK II allow for Driver Emergency, Door Open, Siren On, or any other contact closures in the vehicle.
Vehicle location and status information is sent to the iTRAK Fleet Manager™ where the vehicle’s movements can be viewed in real time back from any internet-connected PC. In addition, iTRAKpc™ also provides standard NEMA GPS information directly to the vehicle PC, via a virtual serial port. This allows the driver or passenger to plot their own position and navigate to any North American address, using software such as Microsoft Street and Trips® or Microsoft MapPoint®. This is ideal for public safety fleets, mobile fleet managers and high-end transportation systems.
Applications
iTRAKpc™ is an ideal solution for public safety markets, such as police, fire, ambulance, as well as for remote supervisory personnel, such as oilfield exploration and service companies.
Many corporate customers require wireless connectivity in their vehicles for accessing email, the internet or their corporate or network data. Such customers would typically have a modem in their vehicle, such as an air card inside their laptop. PC Direct Connect allows the location of company employees to be tracked using this existing connection.
Simply plug the iTRAK II into the USB port of the laptop and it automatically searches out and shares that same data connection!
