Question: How does iTRAK™ Fleet Manager work?

Answer: iTRAK Fleet Manager™ is an innovative mapping application created for tracking and locating vehicles over the Internet. The iTRAK Fleet Manager™ system is designed using state-of-the-art Java software. The system provides an internet link to a variety of wireless systems where the user can view individual mobiles or the whole fleet in real-time (system dependant). The GPS equipped units provide real-time position reports based on configurable time and/or distance parameters.

Question: Which wireless systems can iTRAK™ fleet manager currently support?

Answer: iTRAK Fleet Manager™ currently works with iDEN, 1x CDMA(PCS), GPRS and CDPD systems.

Question: What mobile equipment do I need?

Answer: The mobile equipment depends on the wireless system you subscribe to and the type of solution you require.

First, determine the type of solution you would prefer. For example, do you require something permanently installed or portable? Are you wishing to track people or vehicles? Do you need to monitor external inputs or control external outputs on the vehicle? Are you already using GPS enabled handsets or do you already own cellular handsets that you would like to use to keep your capital costs low? Do you prefer a solution where no driver intervention is required? Do you require data roaming between the US and Canada or other countries? Based on the type of system you require, select the appropriate iTRAK™ product.

Once you've selected the best iTRAK™ solution, the next step is to determine the preferred wireless network. This may help narrow the alternatives, as the device required may only be offered by a particular carrier in your area. For example, GPS / java capable phones are currently offered only by iDEN carriers such as Nextel and the Telus Mike network. If all else is equal and the product you have chosen is supported by more than one carrier, the coverage should be checked to determine which carrier will best meet your geographic needs. Finally, you will need to determine the data rates, which will be dependent upon the frequency of GPS reports that you would like to receive from each employee or vehicle. Contact your local Future Quest dealer or Future Quest if you require any help in making these determinations.

Question: What is iTRAK™?

Answer: The iTRAK™ device is a series of products that provide an economical solution for integrating vehicle location technology with a wireless phone or modem. iTRAKjava™ is a java application designed to allow GPS enabled iDEN phones (Nextel, Southern Linc, Telus Mike) to report their position information to a web based mapping solution called iTRAK Fleet Manager. iTRAK™ is a hardware GPS product that includes a 12-channel GPS receiver and an interface module, called the iModule, that provides the intelligence to integrate location technology with a wireless phone or modem. Different software versions of iTRAK™ are available for different system infrastructures like iDEN, GPRS, 1X PCS, CDPD, and other wireless data infrastructures.
